Leadership

Who is helping you become a leader?

You probably don't associate fraternities with leadership and achievement. But Sigma Nu is proud to offer its members a four-year leadership development program entitled LEAD (which stands for Leadership, Ethics, Achievement, and Development) that can help them discover a new level of achievement to grow socially, intellectually, and morally.

Leaders made or born?

Some say leaders are born and other's say leaders are made. Sigma Nu believes both. But, like a sports car, your leadership skills have to continue to be retuned, reshaped, and sometimes replaced.

No matter what your skill level or knowledge base —achievement can be determined by your ability to understand, work with and influence people. Success comes from your leadership!

Leadership + Values = LEAD

Few programs match the quality of Sigma Nu's LEAD Program. Specifically designed with a $10,000,000 investment, the LEAD Program combines guest facilitators, experiential learning exercises, group simulations and discussions to help young men enhance and develop new leadership qualities.

Sigma Nu doesn't want its members to develop as leaders and just use it to benefit Sigma Nu. Instead we want our members to learn how to lead and then join other organizations like the President's Select, Honor fraternities, Athletics or Student Government and help those organizations become even stronger. Leadership is useless when it is kept in a bottle.

Scholarship

Sigma Nu exists to cultivate and develop ethical leaders. An education is the most important part of that formula. You are a student first, and a Sigma Nu second. To ensure this is happening, Sigma Nu, in accordance with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (the governing arm of 65 national fraternities), has a minimum standard that all members must maintain at least a 2.25 individual GPA and a collective chapter GPA of 2.5. In addition to GPA we require pledges to perform 6 study hours a week.

Brotherhood

One of the most important facets of a fraternity experience, if not the most important, is brotherhood.  All of us could define brotherhood differently and exactly what it means to any one individual, but the fact is that you really can't fully describe it unless you've experienced it yourself.  Brotherhood is a lot of things.  Taking a brother to the airport, picking them up and driving them home, talking about relationships with brothers, working out together, studying together, playing on the same intramural team, knowing you have friends for life that have walked down the same road with you are all examples of brotherhood.

Obviously, all of our brothers have friends outside of the fraternity as well.  In fact, they are very good friends but just have not joined Sigma Nu.  You can establish great friendships with people even if they are not in the same fraternity as you.  With that said, your fraternity brothers are the ones who will be there for you and those that you can count on no matter what.  Moreover, our brotherhood extends well beyond just our current active brothers.  Since we have over 1,000 alumni, we have great relationships with those members as well.  Once again, we could sit here and tell you honestly what a lot of fraternities tell prospective members about brotherhood.  The truth is words cannot 100% explain the meaning and value of brotherhood.  Once you meet our men and spend time with them, you will be able to see our brotherhood, and we hope prospective members see the fruits of our fraternal bond based on Love, Honor, and Truth and will want to be a part of that.

Successes from this last academic year

This past year we participated in homecoming with Alpha Delta Pi. We won 3rd in So-Sing and built an amazing float. We look forward to participating with Delta Gamma this upcoming year for Homecoming. This past year we also served the community by participating in events such as Alpha Delta Pi playdays, Alpha Phi Ivy Cup, Delta Gamma Anchor Splash, Relay for Life, and our event Skate Night where we raised over $2,500 for the American Cancer Society.
